Chapter 4 - 'Base Camp: War at the Rear'

Chapter title and photo analysis:

The fourth photo was taken by Mark Jury. It shows a man getting out of the medivac helicopter with a badly injured foot and going up to the hospital. It relates to the chapter by showing the doctors carrying the injured man on their shoulders. The doctors and nurses were the people fighting the ‘war at the rear’. This photo would be from the heat of the war, in the early to middle stages. This image shows me that the doctors were just as important in this war as the soldiers and one of America’s great advantages over the North Vietnamese with the good medical knowledge and facilities.
